Ce fut a une époque la capitale du Perche et une ville fortifier , on peut voir encore aujourd'hui une partie des remparts.

Mortagne au Perche is one of the larger towns in the Perche a very old part walled town it was once the capital of the Perche region. It has a wealth of history and many ancient buildings including a house once owned by the French king, Henry IV. The town museum is situated close to the 13th century portail St Denis and contains many artifacts showing life around Mortagne over the last 600 years.
Mortagne is renowned for its cider, pommeau, calvados and its own Boudin Noir (Black pudding). Mortagne has a thriving Saturday market, lovely centre with,restaurants, tea shops, antique shops and local fare . There are many ways to visit Mortagne with cycle routes and pedestrian routes offered at the tourist office. Mortagne has usual range of super markets, & D.I.Y. shops .Mortagne has new swimming complex, cinema and theatre.
